Copper Roofing and Hoards of Misinformation
A customer recently asked us for some direction on where to get good information to improve his copper and fine metal roofing techniques. I replied that there really isn't a quality manual or instructional DVD or the like on the subject of fine metal roofing this side of the Atlantic. Well...any that we'd put our endorsement on. There is a TON of misinformation out there. Even people who should know better, don't. We see magazines and all kinds of literature and media everywhere touting fine workmanship when really, the project is just on a large scale and the building is ...
See a specialist!
Roofing companies are like doctors. There are regular family practitioners, very competent in diagnosing and treating common ailments, and then there are specialists. There are certainly some very competent general practitioners who have a special interest in a particular field and know more than their colleagues about that area, but it's pretty safe to say that generally speaking, when you have a particular ailment, it's better for all around if you go to a specialist. I just got off the phone with a young man who wanted to work for us. He explained that the roofing company he currently worked for ...

Copper and Zinc Custom Weathervanes
It seems like everyone these days has their own brand of weathervanes. You can find a huge range from prefabricated 2-dimensional stock designs made of mystery metals to unique and beautiful works of art in fine metal; sometimes even incorporated with artisan glass and semi-precious and precious stones. Let's compare apples to apples for a moment and just talk about the good stuff. So a weathervane looks beautiful, but how can you determine if it will last? I mean, depending on where you live, it's got to withstand a lot from the environment. First and foremost, it's a weathervane and needs ...

The German View Expressed in Architecture
Some of the best examples of the German architecture viewpoint have come from World Fairs. The latest results from research and technology were the focus of interest for the first World Fairs. The long series of large expos which have been held at irregular intervals in many countries and cities all started with the "Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations" held in London in 1851. Over the years, the Expos increasingly became entertainment attractions for millions of people. The best known German contribution to a World Fair to this day is Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's pavillion for ...

EU Accepts German Title of Master Craftsman
The following is from a press release sent out about a year and a half ago. I wanted to include it here just for the purpose of illustrating how seriously Europe and Germany in particular take the title of Master Craftsman: EU accepts German title of master craftsman Tuesday, 9. October 2007 According to the German Ministry for economic affairs, EU member states have agreed by a large majority on upgrading the German title of master craftsman within the system of European training qualifications. Thus, EU legislation has finally come to explicitly acknowledge the high qualification of German master craftsmen. Mr Michael Glos, Federal ...
